I need to know when and how to prune fruit trees?
I have apple, peach, pear, plum and cherry trees that I think I need to prune. They are all about 5 years old and stand about 6 to 7 feet tall. I have been spraying, fertilizing and mulching them regularly and some have produced fruit (mainly the apple and pear) So, I need to know what time of year (what month(s) for someone in NC) is the time to prune AND, how to prune. What is the goal of the pruning? What should the trees look like after pruning? Which pieces should I prune off, which should I leave? Examples???
