Can these plants survive AZ weather?
Banana trees
sunflowers and iris’
I can’t really find anything on the internet but I’m pretty sure they can…
Banana tree could freeze out in some of the really cold days around Christmas…into January. Also summers are really brutal and those leaves are not equipped to handle heat and sun. They are tropical understory plants. Sunflower is an annual, so once it has flowered, it’s gone. Except for Maximilian sunflower, but there the summers would be tough on it. Iris go dormant in the heat…….so perhaps with protection (shade) they may survive. Best bet is to contact the Maricopa County Master Gardeners (Cooperative Extension Service) and talk with them.
