need advice on low maintenance hardy shrubs, bushes, flowers for house bordering -?

I am doing some long needed landscaping & wanted advice on the best smaller size shrubs, bushes, flowers, (something that that gets no higher than 1-2 ft tall) – keep in mind please (LOL) I am a single male that kills most plants (no green thumb!) so I need pretty much foolproof outdoor plants that look really nice, easy maintenance, reasonably priced – btw I am in Maryland, mid-atlantic area just in case that matters on the plant selections – thanks for any help and advice !!

Here are to good hardy shrubs for you, Lavender or Hebe’s, they are both low growing shrubs and need little maintenance, just a clip with some shears once a year and the will have colour through the winter months.
