The Amazing Versatile Machinery: Boom Lifts

If you are a grown-up, you must have watched innumerable instances of firefighters in action either on TV or in reality. The firefighters toil in very difficult working conditions to save the lives of people and minimize the damage to property. The equipment used by firefighters should be very flexible to allow them a fast retreat to a safer zone in hazardous conditions. For example, a fire in a chemical factory could be a real challenge for the firefighters, since the heat that is produced by the fire is multi-fold compared to the heat produced by an office building on fire. In the case of a chemical fire, the fire fighters have to be close to the spot where there is fire, but still are able to fallback when there is an explosion.

The platform that firefighters use to extinguish fire is mounted on a vehicle. The vehicle can be moved while the platform is extended, hence, the platform can be named as a mobile aerial work platform. When we observe this platform’s movement, we will get the impression that they can move in any direction, even diagonally also. This movement is possible because of the way the platform is constructed. There are several joints that work together to give the flexibility that the platform needs.

The aerial work platform is also known as a cherry picker, reflecting the origin of the platform. This kind of machinery was used initially to pick fruits from orchids without causing damage to the trees. Since that time, the machines have evolved tremendously. For example, now-a-days, we have a genie boom lift for sale that can help us perform various jobs.

You might be getting a question in your mind that, these boom lifts are useful only for firefighting and construction work? The answer is NO. These man lifts are very versatile and multi-purpose in nature. They can even be used to lift small weights to several floors above the ground level. But, the point to be noted is that they are not a replacement for a crane. Cranes are heavier machinery than boom lifts and can lift much more weight. But, man lifts will have their place and will not go obsolete for many years to come.
