How can I help my newly planted dwarf grapefruit tree, which leaves are being eaten by something? I can tell its not wind doing this, for parts of leaves remain. It is so disheartening to see this, for the fragile thing already had to endure a bad wind storm last week. ;-/
Is there a general purpose type pesticide you would recommend that I can then also use on some other plants, as needed, too?
Oh, BTW, I live in the Sonoran desert of Arizona, a place conducive to citrus.
I would spray it with horticultural oil on a day that is cooler than 85 F and when bees are not present because it will harm them also. Make sure to spray everything – the top and bottoms of leaves, the trunk, the branches. The spray will suffocate any insects on your tree. If it is in flower at the time the spray could damage the flowers but that is better than letting the insects continue to cause damage.
If the insect is not actually living on the tree but visits, eats and leaves again then I would recommend spraying with an insecticide containing Neem. Using both the oil spray and the Neem would be fine. If you can’t find it locally check here: http://astore.amazon.com/wwwherbariumc-20/detail/B000GXQMQC
