How come the Usda wont let people ship Dwarf Citrus trees to some states?
Everytime i go to a website that sells these it says, sorry we cant ship to Tx, Fl, Az, Ca. We dont make the rules the USDA does? so i was just wondering ?
I live in Texas.
The reasoning behind these USDA decisions is to keep certain pests and diseases from infecting a states main agricultural crop. Growers that ship stock, such as grapevines or citrus trees from out of state would not be allowed to ship to California (a major wine producing state) or Florida (a major citrus producing state). They do not want their main dollar producing crops infected or wiped out by some “native” insect or disease that hitchhiked in on some nursery stock. Sometimes it is easier to buy certain agricultural stock from the same state. These plants are inspected and certified and are usually available for purchase(most of the time).
