What is a good dwarf flowering or weeping ornamental tree for my conditions?
I would like to add a tree or shrub that meets the following conditions:
1) Will receive shade from about 1:00 pm until sundown.
2) Is suitable for Zone 5A
3) Will grow to be at least 6 feet, but no larger than 12 feet tall.
4) Deciduous or evergreen fine. Would really like something unique, flowering or weeping.
6) The soil is acidic, dry, rocky hill top.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!! Thank you!
Try Witch Hazel. Hamamelis. But get the grafted varieties rather than the common. Flowers much showier and less leaf retention in winter.
They make large shrubs or small trees.(12 -18′) Most bloom in winter, but some early spring. Colors available are yellow, orange and coppery red. Light citrus fragrance. Flowers are cold tolerant. Has good fall color too. Has medicinal purposes and was once used as divining rods. Flower is interesting also, fringe like. Bark relatively smooth.
Uncommon plant, but fairly tough.
