Caterpillars eating my hedges?

I live in east texas and I need to find out what kind of caterpillars are eating my hedges…there are millions of them and they are eating nothing else…not my flowers, other shrubs, or my vegetable plants. The are less than an inch long, have 4 feet in front and 4 feet at the back. Any ideas?
I have tried hot, soapy dish water to kil them, but I don’t think it effected them at all.

spray with a solution of dish soap and water, then try pesticides.
Jar or bag a sample and take it to Home depot or do it yourself pest control.
