Fast Growing Privacy Trees?
I have problems with other teenagers and kids walking throgugh my backyard and trampiling my garden. Are there any fast growing trees that I can plant to deter them from entering my yard?
I live in Zone 8 Northeast GA, if that helps anyone.
I did some research of my own and found Red/ Silver Maple. Sweet Gum, Yellow Poplar, and Empress Trees grow well in my area. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Another tidbit that I forgot to mention; I have outdoor cats. Hopefully most of these suggestions are kitty-friendly.
Even with fast growing trees ~ it’ll be years before they will provide an effective barricade.
Lombardy and Empress are soft wood trees and at most, will only last 15 years before they have to come down. Silver Maple is a lovely tree (mine is nearly 65 feet in height) but …has a very shallow root system which means it lifts sidewalks and your lawn, and tends to absorb all the moisture out of the soil making it tough to grow both grass and bedding plants. Sweet gum is another gorgeous tree and while it grows up quickly, it’s pretty slow to grow out. I’ve had problems with young vandals napping off the lateral branches on my sweet gum, even though they leave the other trees untouched.
Rugosa or any type of wild rose are a good alternatives though tend to throw up all sorts of shoots in the lawn. Pyracantha might be the best alternative since it’s a fabulous deterrent at any height and can be pruned into a neat hedge.
