Pink Princess Escallonia with green and yellow leaves!?
I live in a very dry region of california and have a pink princess escallonia (evergreen shrub) in my drought tolerant garden. It is about two years old now and it looks like its been struggling for a long time for its survival. It is a deep evergreen color which is devastated by yellow edged leaves. It seems to continue with this green/yellow look no matter how much or how little I water it. I can see deep green new growth all over it towards the center of the shrub. Does anyone know what is causing the yellow tipped leaves? People keep telling me its water but it never changes no matter how much I water it.
i don’t think this is a water issue. usually escallonia – especially the pink princess – will show fairly obvious signs of sagging and wilting if it’s not getting enough water – and it will perk up just fine when the water is applied. too much water doesn’t seem to be the case for you either. my advice would be to give it an all around fertilizer. either that root system isn’t establishing like it should be, or it’s not getting enough nutrients. a basic 10-10-10 would work just fine.
