How Fast Is Leyland Cypress Tree Growth For Small Liners in First Year?

My wife and I purchased nearly 100 Leyland Cypress trees (liner sized of about 10-14″ in height). We planted them around the perimeter of our property as a privacy screen and wind break.

I know the Leyland Cypress can grow approximately 3-4 feet per year.

My question is this: In the first year, how much growth should I expect for a plant this size? Will it grow 3-4 ft in the first year? I live in northeast TN.

Thanks!

I have watched them over a few years in my neighborhood. Developer actually planted a line of them behind me for screening the new condo’s. He started with 6 foot trees.
First year it sleeps….Maybe 6 inches ,maybe 12.
Second year it creeps …………12 maybe , 24 inches.
Third year – it takes off ! By 10 years it will be 20 feet or higher if planting conditions are right.
I hope you planted these about 15 to 20 feet apart. One plant will eventually spread to 8 or 10 feet at the base ( that’s then 4 to 5 feet and the next one will spread out 4 to 5 feet ) . They may look silly right now at that spacing but trust me.
Ice storms will cause excessive weight and due to the sharp angle of the branch it will snap off.
