What Flowers Will Grow In Southern Ontario In Fall?
I live in Mississauga (Close to Toronto) and I need to know what plants/flowers will grow in Fall weather.
The soil we tested has:
Nitrogen – Low/Trace
Phosphorus – High
Potash – Very High
Need to know what plants will grow in this environment.
The temperature is around 5-15 Degrees Celsius right now.
Need to know ASAP, as I am in my Environmental Science class right now.
If you want to be nice, you could give me:
1. Common and scientific name (genus and species) of the plant
2. Category of plant (e.g. tree, shrub, vine, perennial, fruit, evergreen)
3. General description of appearance
4. Height & Spread/Spacing
5. Amount of light (i.e. full sun, partial shade, full shade)
6. Type of soil it grows best in and why (e.g. clay loam, etc.)
7. Optimal amount of moisture
8. Optimal temperature
You don’t have to provide all of those, but that is what I need. Easy 10 points if you ave a good plant!
Looks to me like you are in zone 4.I’m in zone 5,almost a straight line to your west, so, I’m sure if it is in bloom here , it should be there also.Half Hardy Annual ( all though if you deadhead and sow the seed in the fall, they will come up the next season- I do it every year) ( asteraceae ) Marigolds:Easy to grow, several different types and names, colors are usually in oranges, yellows, rusts and can be mixed or variegated. Drained soil ( will grow in anything but sand, and might in that too).Easy to grow, Plant in direct sun. Best spacing is 23-30cm or 9-12 in. apart. Optimal temp is 45-95f.. Asters(asteraceae) and Chrysanthemum(asteraceae) do very well in cooler weather , and will stay in bloom right up to freezing, and have almost the same requirements as Marigolds, but cooler weather put them in bloom. hope this helps
