Name this small tree with large and fuzzy fig-like leaves, splotchy smooth bark and grows in groups.?

It grows in central Mississippi and loses it’s leaves in winter. Grows about twenty feet tall. When you first see it, you swear it is a fig tree, but the large, fuzzy leaves and no fruit eventually persuade you it’s not a fig tree. I’ve looked all over the Internet for this small tree, but none of the commercial websites have anything that looks like this small southern and probably tropical tree.
