10PTS to whoever can identify this nasty spider (pics included)!!?

I live in Northeast Ohio if that helps….and I found it spinning a web on a swing set in my backyard underneath a big Pine tree. When I tried to get it into the jar, it curled itself up and played dead like a potato bug does.

Thanks!

Yes, the web was circular. I hope it is a garden spider….cause it was so big! I was hoping it wasn’t dangerous.
Thanks to everyone who answered! I let it go back on the swing set :) Luckily, my kids don’t play with it very often.

Looks like a garden spider to me. The white cross on its back is a tell-tale sign.

Was the web circular? Garden spiders tend to spin circular-shaped webs.

They’re not dangerous, just a tad on the big side.
