do i need to buy a curriculum to homeschool my 5 year old?

I am going to homeschool my 5 year old for kindergarten. I am wondering if I need to buy a curriculum or if I can just use printables from online and buy like work books from the dollar tree and reading books, and check out books from the library instead of ordering a curriculum?Would that be enough to home school? I can also buy like leap from dvds too. Would this work ? What about for like history and geography and science? Do i need to get a curriculum for these or is there something cheap that I could buy to teach it myself? What have you used for your kindergarten child , what worked? Did you have to buy a curriculum?

You absolutely do *not* have to buy a curriculum for teaching a 5 year old kindergartener. Some people do, but it is not a neccessity! The things that children learn in kindergarten are so simple. Yes, you can buy workbooks from the Dollar Tree. I do that all the time!! Yes, you can use the library! Many times when my kids were younger, I would not buy a history or science curriculum. Instead, I checked out books and videos from the public library for free.

Please check to see what the homeschooling laws are for your state. Some states do require that you teach certain subjects…………but I can already see that you seem to be thinking ahead and probably plan to teach the required ones. Most states do not even require that you register your child as a homeschooler until they are age 7! But go to this link to see and read about what your state’s regulations are. -

I can see that you are already on the right track – you are thinking of ways to save money. Most people go overboard when buying curriculum and it just is not necessary for K5. Hope this helps!
