How should I start my pecan trees? I’d love to hear any advice.?
My name is Jose. I bought some high quality pecan seeds (I hope so at least) from an online nursery. I love growing all my plants from seeds and its far cheaper that buying the already grown tree so thats why I did it. Its October now and I just got the seeds in the mail, I wanna plant them all you see so that way in a couple of months I’ll have something decent to display for sale at the farmers market besides my flowers i’ll have PECAN TREES!!! Along with my avacado trees, and palm trees…and my ONE bannana tree.
N-E-WAYS. I dont understand the process of stratification-or even if I spelled that word right. so I was hoping someone could explain to me how to start the pecan trees in a really AND I MEAN REALLY dumbing it down kinda way, Also what would be the best way to start them. I got some small pots but I intend to get the 3 gallon pots for them I also bought a medium sized bag of organic seed starter peat moss I think it is.
I bought the seeds from Whatcom Seed Company.
There is a great article about it here written by By Dr. George Ray McEachern, Professor at Texas A&M University….

I will try to summarize it. Seeing as you purchased the seeds, I am assuming they have already been dried correctly. Next get a very deep pot because they grow underground for some time before you see a shoot.
The thing to remember when stratifying is keep the temp between 45 and 35ºF any colder and it will kill the embryo.
I hope the article helps
