Invizimals For Your PSP
Creatures made of pure energy is all around us, invisible to the naked eye. Fortunately for us, a brilliant engineer for the PSP R & D figured out how to discover these creatures using Sony’s handheld PSP and a camera. Seeing these elemental creatures on your PSP screen is remarkable in Invizimals a game that makes it seem as though these tiny animals do battle on your desk, table or floor right in front of you. But the novelty wears off quickly, and technical issues and confusing design choices soon sap much of the magic of that groundbreaking, but ultimately frustrating experience.

Invizimals opens with a live-action introduction where Keni, PSP engineer who discovered the invisible creatures that communicates with you from his laboratory in Tokyo and introduces you to the basics of scanning and capture them. The process is done using the PSP camera and a pattern of capture card you need to put in the camera view when you are trapping, grappling with, or otherwise interact with Invizimals. Keni conspiratorially impress upon you the importance of keeping the powerful Invizimals a secret that you feel like a part of an elite global club with only a few members. As you progress through the story, the live-action sequences often used. These scenes are well produced and fun to watch thanks to the energetic performances of actors, including the flowering-term British thespian Brian Blessed, perfectly cast here as a mad professor who regularly introduces you to new special attacks and other concepts. The plot did you acquire Invizimals and wrestle with them in almost all corners of the globe and end up with wealthy businessmen, kidnapping, and arms dealers, which is pretty serious stuff for a game to catch and fight with invisible beings. But there is a slight hint of camp to it all that keeps it from feeling like it takes itself too seriously.
You will soon have to come down to the business of catching Invizimals yourself, and it is here that some problems start to come into focus. To catch a Invizimal, you point the PSP camera on a surface of a particular color. Scan your immediate surroundings may be enough to trigger the appearance of a Invizimal, but if the required color is not around, go hunting for it. And sometimes, even when the camera is focused on the specified color, it can not work. For example, you scan for Invizimals, a voice prompt you to try a purple surface. But just finding something purple to scan, may not be sufficient if the light is less than ideal and the object does not appear purple to the camera, forcing you to try to adjust the lighting or move the object around until the camera detects objects such as purple and Invizimal finally appears. Moments like this break the illusion game tries to create that Invizimals inhabit the world around us, just waiting to be discovered.
At a certain point, this already frustrating process an even bigger part of gameplay as Invizimals after first being seen fleeing in different ecosystems, there is just a fancy way of saying that you must scan one more color to capture them after they make their first appearance. If they have escaped the fire, scan something red. If they escaped into the sea, scan, something blue. And so on. The idea that Keni explains in a video is to get up from your feet, and chase them from room to room, but it is much easier to just bring together elements of different colors around you, so you have them ready to scan as needed . It feels a bit like cheating, but what you are asked to do is so unnecessary and so easy to get around that it’s almost as though the game encourages you to do it just to save time and give yourself a more pleasant experience.
Capture process is not over when you scan for and locate a Invizimal, either. Each Invizimal have a minigame, you must complete before it succeeded is captured and added to your collection. Many of these engaging little game that makes you feel like an active participant in the capture process. For instance, catch a jetcrab you to dodge fireballs it shoots at you by moving the PSP left and right while shooting back at it with X button. And admits a Vipera is a little like playing a game of Whac-A-Mole, you wait snakelike Invizimal to pop out of a hole in the ground, and then you slam down on top of it with your palm. But some of these minigames is not working well. To catch a roarhide, you block the charging creature by placing your hand in designated areas. Questions like this can happen with annoying frequency and takes much of the joy out of the initially exciting technology at the heart of Invizimals.
As with finding Invizimals while capturing them you can often be tempted to cheat the game a bit when it asks you to do things that just are not funny or realistic given your surroundings. Capturing a moonhowler requires you to jump out of bushes behind him and startle it with a loud sound. This is done by moving the PSP against moonhowler behind some virtual trees, but if you jump out in front of the animal, it will drop. If you play at a table you can easily move around, get behind the creature is not a problem but if you play on a corner desk or other surface you can not move around in all directions, get behind the creature is not always feasible . The easy way around this problem is to just rotate the capture card with your hand, fooling the game into thinking you’ve moved around to the other side, but you should not have to resort to tricks like this to be able to perform the goal game sets for you. Adding to the frustration is that sometimes, for no apparent reason, you can get to know you have to wait 30 or 40 minutes before you can catch a Invizimal you need to acquire to a mission objective. You can always go to battle with your current Invizimals meanwhile, leveling them up and serve watts, serving as in-game currency, but when you’re just eager to move the story along, need to wait until you can capture the necessary Invizimal can bring things to an annoying stand.
Struggling with the Invizimals you’ve caught is the best aspect of Invizimals, but aside from the clever visual trick, it is unremarkable. In combat, your Invizimal four standard attack, with the more powerful attacks cost more stamina to use. This leads to a bit of light strategy as you try to most efficiently sap your opponent’s life without leaving yourself defenseless. You can buy or acquire special attacks called vectors, which are often necessary to be triggered by unusual actions on your part: Launching the earthquake vector, for example, requires you to shake your PSP while lightning has you waving your hand to collect storm clouds. These activities will keep you a bit more involved in the action than you would otherwise be. But other than the cool visuals and occasionally suffered physical participation, the fighting feels much like those of a number of other such animals fighting games.
But these flashy graphics are the big draw for Invizimals and they are impressive, at least initially. Seeing these three-dimensional creatures fight it out in front of you, at your kitchen table or on your lap or wherever you happen to put down the capture card is new and amazing for awhile. The creatures are cleverly designed, with performances that range from cute to terrifying, and as you level them up, it’s rewarding to see your Invizimals evolve from tiny creatures to larger, much stronger appearance to them. But the visual glitch out often enough to break the illusion. PSP sometimes briefly stop recognizing the way capture card is oriented in relation to the camera or wrong its distance, causing Invizimals suddenly seem very small, or head, or otherwise completely out of whack with their surroundings. Because of this, it quickly becomes impossible to buy into the notion that there really are invisible creatures revealed the PSP camera duel ahead of you, and without the novelty going for it, Invizimals begins to feel like just another game to capture and giant creatures, and an often frustrating one.
