need help with privacy shrubs…………….?
Zone 9, want one that is 10 ft. or less tall, one that is tall and slender, but not oleander or treasure troll like juniper. any ideas? Don’t want super poisonous ones, have a dog, I know most all or poisonous, but not one that will make him die in minutes. Thanks.
One of the best choices will be evergreen so you enjoy screening all year around. Fortunately such a warm climate zone offers many options. Here are two tried and true choices that are well proven in gardens.
The fern pine is a group of trees and shrubs under the genus Podocarpus. The most commonly planted form, ‘Maki” is profiled in the link below. They produce dense dark green needle like foliage that takes well to a gentle shaping for the perfect size.
Another option is Xylosma congestum, with wide yellow green leaves that offers a lush look complimented by highly fragrant small white flowers. Buy as a columnar form with a single trunk.
