How to prune an oak tree?
I have two oak trees in my backyard. They used to be in very close quarters with a lot of other trees, but we pulled the rest of the trees out. The two remaining trees are growing straight up because they were formerly packed in so close. They are each at least 15 years old. What can I do to encourage them to fill out. At this point they aren’t really providing any shade.
By the way, they are valley oaks in northern California.
call in an arborist….. cutting on an oak to ‘make’ it spread out will be a project for a pro….. personal opinion is to leave it alone and let it ‘reach’ for the sun on it’s own….. you said ‘what can I do’, yet asked about pruning…. don’t do anything till you talk to the pro, ok?….. and nothing should be done at all until that tree is dormant in winter!!
