What tree is this?
I have a tree…it is very large with smooth bark and deep purple leaves. The leaves are smooth compond alternate. No thorns. In spring it had green leaves and white flowers that were cone shaped. I live in Michigan…any ideas?
i live in Michigan, the leaves look like ash, no lobes, smooth edges, the bark is smooth,
it is growing friut as we speak, small individual berries that look like cherries. not in clumps. How can i get a picture on the web so you can see it?
purple-leaved chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) variety such as ‘Schubert’ (also called ‘Canada Red’).
had same question on a botony forum…thanks for helping.
Sounds like a European Mountain Ash. The mountain ash after white flowers produces scarlet red berries in fall and has a leaves like a ash tree but the bark is smooth and not as ashy.
Sorbus aucuparia is the scientific name for it.
It also could be American Mountain Ash Sorbus Americana
Northern Mountain Ash – Sorbus
