Buying Guide for Tree Stand Climbers for Hunters

If you are new to hunting, the first thing you should consider is a tree stand climber. Tree stands can greatly impact your hunting experience. If you’re looking for increased success, this is the tool that can help you achieve your goals. Being in a heightened position will hide your scent and allow you to hunt with much more ease. Basically there are three types of tree stands: the fixed stand, ladder stand and climbing tree stand. This article will break down the three different types of tree stands and help you to decide which is best for you.

FIXED TREE STAND

The fixed tree stand is exactly what it implies, a tree stand attached to a tree. This is not permanently attached but it is also not made to be moved daily. Most hunters leave them in place from one week to the entire hunting season. When using this tree stand you need some way to climb the tree, such as a portable ladder or other climbing device.

LADDER TREE STAND

The ladder tree stand is basically a stand with a ladder. It’s easy to climb because it has a ladder which also makes it safer. It tends to be bulkier and more difficult to carry out into the woods versus the fixed stand. For this reason hunters tend to leave these stands in the woods for extended periods of time. In my opinion it is more difficult to stabilize them to the tree.

CLIMBING TREE STAND

Climbing tree stands have two types each one consists of two pieces: the platform and the seat. The platform and seat are attached to the tree separately. With one you take the seat in your hands and put it over your head and you use your arms to pull the platform up with your feet. The other one, which is becoming more popular, is called the “sit-in-climb.” The sit-in-climb is considered the most stable and safest of all tree stands, because there is very little movement and you are in a sitting position with minimal effort. Less movement means fewer chances of accidents.

TIP: On the platform if you start the front of the platform 6 inches higher than the back when you begin your climb, usually you will level out at 20 feet. This depends on the circumference of the tree; because they become smaller as you go up.

After personally using dozens of these different types of tree stands, it is my opinion that Summit Tree Stands are one of the best climbing stands available.
