sycamore trees musical
What bird makes a call that is like a single note, like “rumpt” and repeats every few seconds?

He appeared to be a bit larger than a mockingbird, perhaps about the size of a blue jay. He had long tail feathers, and was at the top of a Sycamore tree in Central Texas this weekend (June)
I thought it would be easy to identify him with the bird book, but am not having much luck.
The odd call is what caught our attention. The flight appeared similiar to a small hawk, maybe, but I don’t really think it was a sparrow hawk. They don’t make a call like that do they?
A single, flat, “rumpt” , or “clunk” call (not musical song at all) seperated by several seconds, repeated fairly infrequently maybe 6 or 8 times in a minute.
It definately was not a pigeon or dove, so don’t suggest that
it was too big to be a catbird

Hmm… have you tried looking up a catbird?

Try plugging in all the information you know at www.whatbird.com

That site’s helped me ident a few tricky ones.
