Wedding Flowers – Creative Ideas

Flowers set the theme of your wedding and are at the center of attention. Here are several suggestions on how to create a beautiful flower setting and make your wedding reception memorable.

Different Shapes

Tree-like topiaries and potted plants can serve as centerpieces and give the reception a garden feel. Flowering branches from cherry blossoms can be placed in tall vases to add drama and height to your tables. Also consider incorporating non-floral elements like stones, feathers, berries, and crystals to add interest and depth.

Go Navy

One of the hottest colors on the 2009 wedding palette is the sophisticated color of navy. Naturally navy flowers may be hard to come by, but there are some options that are a close match: deep blue violets, thistles, and hydrangea are available in various shades of blue and indigo. Roses can also be dyed navy blue. Pair these bold navy blooms with white or ivory for a classic or maritime look, or yellow or orange (complementary color) for a bright burst of color.

Get Bold

Use brightly colored napkins and table linens to play up even brighter floral arrangements. This daring combination of bright-on-bright creates a stunning, eye-catching contrast. Think hot magenta, peacock blue or royal purple linens will give you a rich, luxurious look and pair them with bold blooms like yellow gerbera daisies, orange dahlias, and purple orchids.

It Here’s a creative do it yourself idea. Consider wrapping plain containers in pretty fabrics to match your wedding colors and place your reception flowers in these containers. You can also choose different patterns in the same colors, or go with similar patterns (say, all stripes) in a range of hues.

Beyond the Vase

Instead of the basic floral vase for holding your flowers, try mixing and matching clusters of unique containers like, mason jars, pitchers, and uniquely shaped vases to add interest and reflect your wedding theme. Some ideas: Fill watering cans with wild flowers for a garden affaire, or use apothecary jars filled with sand and sea glass to complement an ocean front wedding.

Go Green

Bring the outdoors in with natural objects like stones, pinecones, berries, leaves, and twigs. They add a natural ambiance to your reception. These can be placed in rustic containers or scattered among pillar candles.

Personalize It

A hand tied bouquet of fresh flowers continues to be the most popular bouquet style. It offers the look of simple elegance. Brides can personalize their flowers by incorporating unique items into their bouquets. Their bouquets can be embellished with brooches, pins, and crystal picks. Reception centerpieces can be personalized to create a conversation piece for guests. For example wine lovers can use wine bottles and decanters as centerpiece holders.

No Corsage

Forgo the corsages and instead have moms carry nosegays down the aisle. Or if it is a tropical island wedding consider having them wear fragrant and colorful leis.
