Let’s Go Flathead Catfishing
Going flathead catfishing can be exciting.The Flathead catfish derive from the US. Since the flathead catfish got it’s birth from the Mississippi River it has spread all over the nation, because it’s a tremendous piece of food and spirited fish. Flatheads can be found in slow-moving water such as immense rivers and streams, and also in lakes and ponds. Flatheads will regularly select to live in deep water with logs and brushwood this material makes good cover.
Flatheads acquire their name from the look of it’s head which is long and noticably flat. Their eyes are flat and oval shaped, and their lower jaw protrudes past their upper jaw. Yellows and browns are some of the colors you will see them in. Catching grand forty to fifty lb catfish in rivers and lakes is usual. Several have reported catching catfish over 1 hundred lbs. |Reports of a number of individuals catching flatheads over one 100 lbs have been logged.
From the time flathead catfish are hatched, they mature rapidly. When they reach 15 to 19 inches long they are mature, some living over 20 five years. They continue to mature through their whole life cycle. A flathead will eat anything, but they prefer fish|Just about everything is on the flatheads menu as long as it will fit into their bountiful mouth, but the all time favorite is fish. If you are searching for one of their all time best-loved fish look no further than Bream. They also enjoy to eat live perch and sunfish. In littler lakes and ponds flathead catfish have the capability to annihilate some sunfish populations. Some littler streams and rivers in GA have all but lost all their redbreast sunfish after introducing flatheads. Flatheads generally eat by sight, and will eat during the day and at night — but are naturally more active at night. You can draw flatheads by using light. They’ll arrive to feast on the baitfish that are attracted to the light.
Flatheads are drawn to deep holes near bends in the river. Seek out stumps, rocks, and logjams these are favorite hangouts for flatheads. Cast underneath the edges. Let your bait drift in, and then hang on. If the outside bends are too strong to fish, discover some inside bends with less current. In grand lakes and reservoirs, look for the grand flatheads in areas with lots of cover — like submerged brush piles. Flatheads make it a habit to move up and down the channels of rivers and creeks. They’ll travel channels at night and come out at the end of shallows to eat. Place yourself along these areas and wait for them to come.
Fishing after dark, early morning, or early evening will produce better results. Even though flatheads will eat bait in the day time, they will not travel far to do so. If you get familiar with the body of water you are fishing, you will be able to get the bait close enough to them. Keep your catfish bait on the river or lake bottom. Flatheads will eat off the bottom usually.
