Do Japaneese Hornets live in the Northeast (USA)??
I saw this crazy GIANT hornet in my backyard killing another insect. The other insect was a large white/grey bug that sounded almost like a cricket or a tree frog. I was afriad to nail them with bee-spray because I was afraid it would just anger the hornet. Anyone know if its a Japaneese hornet? And if so are they a danger to children?? It was striped like a honey bee with large brownish wings and it was about 5 times the size of a black wasp.
European hornets have invaded parts of the US and they are very nasty. Not as big as the Japanese variety though. It was very likely a cicada killer. Those things are huge. Even a single one would give a very nasty sting but unless they are allergic it is not likely to cause anything beyond severe pain.
