Help with landscaping!!?
I know theres alot but how do I trim these bushes and shrubs or whatever they are. I am first time buyer and new to this and want the front of the house to look nice but dont have the money now to pay anyone. They seem to be getting a bit out of control and I need to prune or trim or something. Are they ok to cut off parts of during this time of year? I live in CT. Do you know what the big bush is in picture 2356? It has little green berry type things and I started to trim it yesterday but not sure if I should have been cutting the berry things off. Thanks!

Thank you so kind of you to take time to answer this. Do you know what the names are in picture 2357?
2349 – Japanese Maple. This is an expensive ornamental tree. Prune with care! It has certainly become a bit unruly, so prune branches from the bottom so no leaves are resting on the ground. Cut the entire branch in question away just above where it has begun to grow. Meaning – where the branch has spawned from the trunk, there will be a bump at this join… leave the “bump” and cut immediately after it. Please research though when the best time of year is in your area so you don’t risk losing this beauty!
2350 – Rhodedendron. Not sure why you would want to prune this — once you see the majestic blooms on this puppy you will surely be pleased.
2356 – these look like spirea and your standard evergreens (the square could be a big boxwood). You can prune these easily, just snip to enhance their shape and neaten them up. The spirea can be hacked all through the season with little issues.
Your home is just beautiful! If you’d like to add some pizazz, just plant some annuals like impatients for a splash of color. Hostas are a great addition to any garden too because their varieties are vast and each year you can split them in two and replant to fill in empty places in the garden. They also do equally well in sun or shade. Also consider adding rockery or driftwood. I always keep my eye out around construction sites or during walks in the woods. It’s nice to have wood or stone to act as a natural anchor in a garden.
